Burgundy Winters in Europe by Pranay Patil

Burgundy Winters in Europe is a supernatural fiction that follows the life of Jace Tanner, a rockstar at the peak of his career.

Jace Tanner is a lead guitarist in the band Soft Division, whose two albums made it to the international Billboard charts, making them a sensation. Jace along with his best friend and lead guitarist Aiden, drummer Cross, and bassist Russ is falling into the sinkhole of fame, parties, and drugs. The reality brutally confronts him when Aiden dies of an overdose. The guilt of it all overwhelms Jace. With the help of his sister Pearl, he gets into rehab. After six months of rehabilitation, Jace accompanies Pearl on a 15-day Europe tour to take his mind off things.

While in Paris, Jace meets Yasmine, a tour guide who is struggling with her own troubled past. The two quickly bond and move through Europe, exploring and sharing their individual demons.

How did it make me feel?

The thing I liked the most about this book is since one of our characters, Yasmine, is a tour guide, readers get an elaborate visualization of historical sites in Europe. Particularly for me, I love when books take me on a journey. And author Patil is definitely successful in doing that with Burgundy Winters in Europe.

Next, I love how the story explores the delicate subjects such as addiction, mental health, death, self-realization, and forgiveness, in such a frictionless manner. This leads the readers to comfortably relate to these characters.

The paranormal aspect of this story brings freshness to the narrative. However, I am pretty sure the story would have done well even without it. I would be happy with this journey of resolve that our characters go through, without their paranormal experience. Having said that, it did add excitement to the story, making it fast-paced and unpredictable.
