Tree of Redemption is a blend of mystery, romance, culture, and an adventurous quest of an individual to find the truth about his mentor’s death.

Chris Hamilton just landed in Laredo, Texas. He arrived from his home in Virginia immediately after he received a note that said that his mentor Armando Guerra had died. The note did not share any details of his death. So Chris has come to Guerra’s hometown to visit his family, pay his respects, and find out the truth about his death.

As soon as he arrives, Chris finds out that there is much more to Guerra’s death than what appears on the surface. As he sets out to dig up the truth, he forms unexpected bonds, some revived from the past, some entirely new. Some things seem to untangle, while others seem to entwine. In a town where Hispanic and American cultures vividly amalgamate, Chris realizes how strongly the community looks out for its own. While this seems to expedite Chris’s mission, it’s also the thing that presents dangers in his path. Amidst these circumstances, Will Chris find out the truth regarding the death of his beloved friend? And at what cost?

How did it make me feel?

The Narrative

I found Tree of Redemption to have a little bit of everything in perfect doses. It immediately pulls you into this ride, where the first interaction among the characters will set you up for an intriguing journey. While the readers start wondering about how, what, and who, they’re simultaneously immersed in the beautiful landscapes and the small-town vibes of Southwest Texas. Author Davidson has done an amazing job, particularly, with the setting of this narrative. I enjoyed visualizing Guerra’s home as well as the trapezing through Laredo and Brownsville. I loved how the proverbial ‘tree’ takes on a well-rounded meaning by the end of the story. Tree of Redemption escorts you through twists, turns, and unexpected revelations but eventually leaves you feeling good.

The Characters

Chris Hamilton, the protagonist has all the ‘good-guy’ qualities, but I like how the author has portrayed his vulnerabilities too. It makes for a relatable character which I believe is key to this story. But what I like more are the peripheral characters that exude the qualities that are central to this story. These characters are strong yet exceptionally affable which makes them very likable and memorable.

Would I recommend it?

I’d definitely recommend it. I am happy to know that the sequel is set to come out soon and I can’t wait to see what adventures await Chris Hamilton next.
