The Crossed by T.J.Rao

The Crossed is a dystopian love story of Hart and Violetta. The year is 2084. The American government has decided to preserve different cultures by not allowing them to mix. Which is why The Crossed law was passed in 2043 that prohibits people of different races to procreate. The law since has practically divided the society into The Pravi (those born of a single race) and The Crossed (those born of mixed races), the latter of which are forced to live in a special town built for them called Teorrain.

The Pravi are manipulated by the government to believe that The Crossed are being treated as equals but in reality, the life behind the walls is miserable for The Crossed. When Hart becomes curious about their lives, he decides to visit Teorrain via a secret passage. There he meets Violetta and the two immediately share a connection. In a world where even an interaction between a Pravi and a Crossed is forbidden, these two now seek to make their dream of spending their lives together a reality.

How did it make me feel?

The Crossed is a refreshing love story. It will keep you curious throughout and that makes the reading a fun experience. This topic is so fascinating, I did crave for a little more information about the world that the author has created. A bit more history and clarity of the workings of 2084 American society would have made the experience even more exciting. Having said that, I loved everything about this book. As soon as I was half a chapter in, I was completely gripped by the story. I was rooting for both sides and outraged by the politicians, which was not very difficult to relate to especially at this time 😉 If you’re looking for something unique, I would definitely recommend The Crossed.
