The Shadow Of The Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

The Shadow Of The Wind is a stunning thriller by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. It is the first book in The Cemetery of Forgotten Books series, published in 2001.

The story begins in 1945 when Sempere takes his young son Daniel to The Cemetery of Forgotten Books for the first time. This sanctuary is home to books that no one remembers, books that are lost in time. He encourages Daniel to pick a book with an intention of adopting it, preserving its soul, and making sure that it stays alive and never disappears. Filled with wonder, Daniel walks through the shelves containing thousands of books before picking one, The Shadow of The Wind by Julián Carax.

Intrigued by this work of his, Daniel sets out to find more works of Julián Carax when he makes a shocking discovery; that the copy he owns may be the only existing work of Julián Carax. All the works of Julián Carax were hunted down and destroyed by an unknown person for unknown reasons and the author himself was nowhere to be found. Daniel tries to get to the core of this mystery and sets in motion the darkest secrets from the past. The more he seems closer to the truth, the more twisted the tale becomes. For a decade to come, Daniel becomes trapped in the tales of the past and the horrors of the present.

How did it make me feel?

Another book added to my favorites list! Wow! What an amazing journey! I got goosebumps so many times while reading it. This book has every element you can think of when you think of a book; horror, thriller, romance, heartbreak, family drama, the miracle of fate and misfortune. But most importantly, each and every element is so meaningful. This is one of those books that make you feel the story.

Almost every line you read is like a portal to a new perspective of looking at life. Sometimes, I cannot believe the power of language. You know, how you can convey such deep, meaningful messages through the use of such simple phrases and sentences? And this is a translation! I wonder how beautiful this book must be in its original text!

I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it! In my opinion, The Shadow Of The Wind is one book that everyone should read in their lifetime.
