The Art of Racing in The Rain by Garth Stein

The Art of Racing in The rain is a beautiful story of a race car driver and his dog told from a dog’s perspective.

Denny Swift is a race car driver who is also working as a customer representative at a car dealer to make ends meet. His dog Enzo loves watching the videos of car races with him. Enzo watches Denny go through it all; Denny getting married, having a child, winning, and losing races. When Denny goes through a turbulent period in life, Enzo tries his best to help him. While doing so, he humorously expresses his exasperation with the downsides of being a dog.

Enzo tries to understand life by relating it to racing. He takes all the lessons learned from watching hours of racing videos and looks at life through the lens of a race car driver. With all the things that he has learned, he prepares himself to pass over his present life and come back as a human in the next. Everything that we read in this book is a retelling of  Enzo’s memory of his life with Denny and his family.
