The Guest List by Lucy Foley – Audiobook

The Guest List is a suspense thriller published on February 2020.

Julia Keegan (Jules) is set to become a perfect bride at her perfect wedding. Jules is an ambitious and assertive woman. With a flourished career, considerable money, and a celebrity for her husband-to-be, Jules wants this wedding to become the talk of the town. She has chosen an isolated island off the coast of Ireland as the venue.

As the guests arrive, the ocean waves rise and the darkness gathers, the secrets of the family members, the guests, and the venue slowly start to materialize. The storm gets worse on the night of the wedding resulting in a blackout. When the lights are finally back, a distressed waitress arrives with grim news. She’s found a body.

Jumping to different POVs, The Guest List attempts to solve this murder mystery. But the bigger question is, who’s the victim?

How did it make me feel?

The Narrative

Absolutely loved it!! The Guest List is the kind of book I think of when I think about a good thriller. I think the strength of this book lies in how it utilizes multiple POVs. I usually love reading a story from different perspectives but The Guest List hit it home with this composition. It maintained the mystery so well and kept me guessing until the very last moment.

Audiobook Narration

Narrators: Jot Davies, Chloe Massey, Olivia Dowd, Aoife McMahon, Sarah Ovens, Rich Keeble

The narration of The Guest List is what added that extra bit for me. With a different narrator for each POV, it was very engaging, it was like watching an enthralling movie! Kudos to the narrators. Absolutely loved it!

The Characters

When the story concluded, however, I felt like it was a bit hasty in terms of how the characters were portrayed, especially one of them. I can’t say which one without giving spoilers, but I was expecting a bit vehement behaviour on their part given everything that happened.

Would I recommend it?
