How did it make me feel?

The Naked Don’t Fear The Water was a difficult book to read as I had anticipated. The refugee stories are always gutting and never get easier with any sort of consolation. But this powerful narrative challenges preconceptions and offers a profound understanding of a nation caught in the crossfire. Author Aikins sheds light on the struggles of the refugees navigating the treacherous borders between Afghanistan and Europe. From personal anecdotes to geopolitical analysis, the book offers a compelling portrayal of the dangers and hardships inherent in border crossings.

What I loved the most about this book is that author Aikins beautifully reflects on the broader implications of physical borders between countries. This narrative serves as a powerful lens through which to examine how these boundaries can shape and disrupt human lives, creating both tangible and intangible barriers. The author raises thought-provoking questions about the nature of borders, identity, and the human spirit, urging readers to consider the impact of political decisions on individuals and communities. He weaves together personal stories, geopolitical intricacies, and the impact of historical events, providing readers with a nuanced perspective on the multifaceted issues at play in the region.

Would I recommend it?

A big yes! Amid the geopolitical challenges and chaos that prevail all over the world,  we tend to forget that there are actual human beings whose only dream in life is to live peacefully. The Naked Don’t Fear The Water compels us to come back to this reality. More people should read stories like this.
