Walking Among The Trees by Frank M. Oliva
Walking Among The Trees is a psychological horror/thriller, set to release on June 22, 2021.
Father Nathaniel Kerrigan is facing an absolute dilemma. He notifies the bishop of a young girl, who is possessed by an evil force and has to be exorcised immediately. The bishop insists that Kerrigan perform the ritual. However, Kerrigan doesn’t want to do it at any cost. When all fails, Kerrigan calls on his old friend Monsignor Carmichael to convince the bishop to find another priest. But Carmichael is not ready to do it unless he knows everything regarding why Kerrigan is avoiding the ritual.
They meet in front of a small pond outside the woods. Carmichael drags Kerrigan to the trail and takes him deep into the woods, while Kerrigan narrates his story. As layers upon layers unveil, Carmichael brings out the deepest and darkest secrets of Kerrigan’s life. There is much more to the story than Kerrigan’s insistence on having no experience with the exorcism to avoid doing it.
How did it make me feel?
I absolutely loved this book! It gave me goosebumps! I loved the setting and storytelling. It keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. The world-building for the thriller/horror aspect is perfect! All the characters had an intriguing, mysterious element to them. I would have loved to read more of this story. The ending felt abrupt, even though I know it was intentional so as to portray the protagonist’s emotional journey. I felt like I needed to know more about the other characters, which actually an indication of how good this book is.
