Inferno is an intense mystery/thriller by Dan Brown, the fourth book in his Robert Langdon series.

Robert Langdon wakes up in a hospital in Florence, Italy with no memory of how he got there. His doctors, Dr. Sienna Brooks and Dr. Marconi reveal that he was shot and the bullet grazed the top of his skull, causing mild amnesia. While Robert struggles with this information, an unexpected visitor forces her way into the ICU and shoots Dr.Marconi. Dr. Brooks immediately secures the room, grabs Langdon along with his belongings, and whisks him away to her apartment.

Sienna questions Langdon about the mysterious object she found in his jacket, securely hidden, assuming that that object is the reason someone was trying to kill him. However, Landon has no recollection of it whatsoever. It is a high-end, lead-lined titanium bio tube, used to transport dangerous substances. To know who is trying to kill him and why, Robert has no choice but to open it. Once opened, the contents inside force Robert and Sienna to remark on a seemingly impossible journey.

How did it make me feel?

Dan Brown has done it again! Whenever I start reading his books, I comfortably fall into this cocoon of a rich, vibrant world filled with art and history. But at the same time, I find myself at the edge of my seat every minute. I am almost all too familiar with the structure of Brown’s narrative by now, and yet I find myself looking forward to it, so much so that I can’t stop reading. Inferno meets the bar undeniably.

I love how by the time I finish Dan Brown’s books, I learn so much. It blows my mind to see how elaborate his world-building is, yet so engaging. This time too, as it happens with every one of his books, I had Inferno on one hand and Google on another. I was ecstatic learning about Dante’s Inferno, on which the story is based, and all the symbols and codes that give it a signature Dan Brown feel!

I can’t say I care for the romantic angle in Langdon’s life, which more often than not, comes as a cheesy and futile addition. But as it comes with a mind-blowing story, I’ll take it, any day!
