Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane
Shutter Island is a 2003 psychological thriller by Dennis Lehane, turned into a popular motion picture in 2010.
The year is 1954. Two U.S. Marshals, Edwards Daniels (Teddy) and his partner Chuck Aule, travel to Shutter Island on a ferry boat. Shutter Island is home to Ashecliffe Hospital for the criminally insane. Teddy and Chuck are headed there to investigate the disappearance of one of the patients, Rachel Solando.
As the investigation sets forth, the case seems to get more and more mysterious, as Rachel seems to have disappeared into thin air. Escaping from Shutter Island seems practically impossible and thus, Teddy believes that there is a lot more going on than what he is led to believe. He is even skeptical about his partner Chuck. He believes he has fallen deep into some intricate plot. But what about himself? Is Teddy Daniels what he seems to be?
How did it make me feel?
I knew I was going to love this book as soon as I started it because; first- I had seen the movie years ago and even if I’d forgotten many of the details, I remember how it made me feel. I’d LOVED it! When I found out it was based on a book, I couldn’t wait to read it! Second- I loved the writing. This is just a beautifully written book. This is the kind of book that you know is going to leave you with something amazing even if the story doesn’t turn out to be what you expected.
It is fast-paced and there isn’t a minute where you’ll feel bored or you’ll feel like the story isn’t moving forward. It is a classic page-turner and I loved each and every minute of it.
I highly recommend Shutter Island. Especially if you’ve not seen the movie yet, this book will absolutely blow you away!
