Phoebe’s Money by Rhonda Kings
Phoebe’s Money by Rhonda Kings is a suspense novel published, in December 2019.
Maddie Montgomery is a thirty-two-year-old freelance designer. Her mother Phoebe Montgomery is in her late sixties. Maddie lost her father when she was very young. It was no secret that he had left a fortune for Phoebe, eventually to be passed down to Maddie.
When Phoebe receives an invitation to stay at a luxury hotel in Ocean City, all expenses paid, she, Maddie and her best friend Beth set out for the experience. Maddie initially has some reservations about the invitation, however, she’s lately been frustrated about her seemingly dead-end relationship. After doing a quick research and confirming the legitimacy of the hotel, she let it go.
During their stay, they meet an exceptionally charming man named Jack Stone. He makes such a strong impression on the ladies that Phoebe invites him to a family gathering. As more and more people meet Jack, they start seeing gaps in his behavior. Especially, Adam, Beth’s brother and Maddie’s childhood friend finds glaring discrepancies in Jack’s stories. Maddie, who finds herself increasingly attracted to Jack, is livid with Adam when he shares this with her.
However, Maddie soon notices that Jack’s attention is focused more on Phoebe than her. This makes her suspicious and thus, she tries to build up on Adam’s findings. Little does she know that she’s headed toward a dangerous path and she’s not the only victim.
How did it make me feel?
The Narrative
Phoebe’s Money is a deliciously fast-paced novel. I loved how the ride starts right away and the characters develop steadily over this thrilling narrative. Author Kings has been successful in creating a well-rounded story. I love it when, especially with the suspense novel, there are no loose ends. It was an overall enjoyable experience. I didn’t feel like I was waiting forever for something to happen. Every page was adventurous.
The Characters
As I mentioned, I loved how Phoebe’s Money dives right into business. then takes its characters and gradually develops them over the course. It was a refreshing reading experience. While I was frustrated occasionally with the way the characters were so trusting, I was also convinced that a charm works like magic and can sometimes betray even the most cautious people. It was very relatable and I loved it!
