Far Forest Scrolls Na Cearcaill is the first book in the Far Forest Scrolls, a dark fantasy series by Alpha Four.

It is a cloudy night in Vernguard, with only a few moons out of its thirteen, lighting the path of The Grand Master Elf and his son Kempe. They are traveling towards Castle Libreium, the capital of the Independent Knights. They bring with them three children, one of whom is believed to be the Chosen One. A great war is coming to Vernguard, unlike any other. Na Cearcaill – horrific darkness that brings with it an endless cycle of destruction, looms ahead. However, a powerful Prophecy that the League of Truth has been protecting for centuries, provides a glimmer of hope.

The Prophecy charts a path the Chosen One would take to find the powerful magic Macht Crystals and break the Cearcaill. But the path is full of despair with terrifying, bizarre, otherworldly enemies blocking their paths.

How did it make me feel?

The Narrative

I absolutely enjoyed this magical storytelling. As I was reading it, I kept thinking that this book definitely needs to be talked about more in the book community. As a fantasy lover, this book checked off every aspect of a good fantasy read for me and more! I could not put it down. Just the sheer number of fantastical entities introduced in this book kept me turning the pages because I was so eager to find out what these characters were going to encounter next! Also, I loved the author’s sense of humor. There were some really good laugh-out-loud moments and that just made reading this story that much better.

I bought the hardcover version of this book and the digital illustrations are just stunning! It adds so much to this storytelling. The narrative in itself is vivid, but coupled with the illustrations, every page brims with life. I mean, just look at these beautiful pieces:

I gotta be honest with you. After reading so many great fantasy books, I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. It undoubtedly surpassed my expectations. And what’s better? Once you finish this book, you’re left with this feeling that things are just getting started and it’s only going to get better. I cannot wait to read the next one in the series.

The Characters

I loved the characterization of Far Forest Scrolls. I have this feeling that these characters have so much more to their story, that I hope is going to unfold eventually with the other books in the series. However, the author has given the readers just the right amount of glimpses into these refreshingly interesting characters with Na Cearcaill. Absolutely loved it!

Would I recommend it?
